This post is basically a B-side, playing a secondary role to a bigger post on a brand new topic coming-soon. But I'm here to finish what I started.
The man up there taking a deep breathe is a practitioner of Sufi mysticism: The voodoo ladies, Buddhist monks, and Shaman equivalent for much of the Muslim world. But what these groups all have in common, are very esoteric (exclusive and exotic) practices in excess of their societies' general practices. Everything from snake venom to rat liver has been used by these groups to create magical concoctions. But another thing that has lasted throughout the ages is the continued usage of natural herbs: from khat to ganja to ginseng to tea.
But that's getting boring... what I'm here to say is that although many of these groups have practiced various herbal remedies, almost all religions have at first or at one point denounced the act of drinking. This comes again, not as an attack against alcohol, but I simply want you to know the reason behind many religions' and groups opposition to alcohol, even early Christians. (Which is why even to this day drinking is associated with falling victim to the Devil.)
Because you see, Alcohol, as a toxin, disengages normal processes within your system at almost every level; from your blood thinning to the way you see to simply the way you act and feel, it is all detrimentally effected by the presence of ethanol within your system.
This is why many groups are against such drugs, because they bring with them an enhanced risk of moral deviation; and by that I mean you will do stupid shit. Because when you are under the effects of a toxic agent, you have less control over yourself, and naturally being inclined towards misbehavior and being guided by the Devil, you are a danger to yourself and those around you. (original sin: lawl.)
But increasing your senses and thinking processes have always been a goal for those seeking enlightenment, and so khat, ganja, ginseng and tea will continue to do the trick for me: simply because I love to expand my mind...
As a side note... I didn't really want to say this one, but I may as well, seeing as you have probably partaken in this act several times since the start of this post. You're an addict, whose brain is addicted to a drug quite prevalent, yet you will never see or smell it. Something too in-bedded in life itself that you fail to realize that if you went cold turkey off of it, you would simply cease to exist fairly quickly: ... So I just want you to take a a second to take a deep breath for me ... ... ... ... ...
... and tell me how you like the taste of Oxygen, actually Sugar and Caffeine are Better Examples... Feels mind-opening, doesn't it? (lawl, gay ending.)

I wouldn't agree that oxygen is a drug - it's just necessary in metabolism because it is a good oxidizer that doesn't mess with anything else in the Electron Transport Chain While the other substances you've mentioned are considered performance enhancing by some.. excess oxygen is quite dangerous, and so, shouldn't fall under this category.
There is no positive feedback reward system associated with oxygen..except continued life, the negatively perceived quality of which is often cited as a reason for recreational drug use in the first place.

Obviously very valid points by Pushan; because sadly this post was more rhetoric than fact. My next one will return quality. lol:)
